Photo Contest – Friends And Neighbors (FANS) of Washington Park

For many year FANS conducted an online photo contest. The purpose of this contest was:

To encourage the public to explore Washington Park, to appreciate, and to capture its beauty.
To raise funds for park projects
To enhance awareness of the efforts of FANS within the general community
To expand the collection of beautiful images of the park for use on the FANS’ website, the FANS annual photo calendar, and in various FANS promotional materials.

In 2018 we discontinued our contest as the longtime volunteers who ran it withdrew from the project. We would gladly rekindle this effort if we can find volunteers to help us with the management of the contest. Could that be you?

Free programs from FANS

Educational events within the park are a key part of our mission. We’re excited to have recently hosted Audubon Society bird walks, a lecture on conversion from turf to native plants, a tour of the City Park Greenhouse and more.

What’s happening in the park today?
Washington Park is home to many events such as charity runs. Some of these, like the annual Dumb Friends League Furry Scurry, have a big impact for other park users, such as road closures. The city has a comprehensive Special Events Calendar that can help you discover happenings in the park.
